Jennifer galloway oboe biography of barack obama
Jennifer Galloway, oboe
1. How and why did you choose to play your instrument?
I was 10 years old and my father was deputy music advisor for Fife Region at that time, so I went along to a lot of county youth orchestra rehearsals that he was involved with.
Jenny Galloway - Royal Northern College of Music
I was totally spellbound by the sound of the oboe...and the rest is history!
2. Who has inspired you and why?
There are too many to name but definitely my teacher whilst I was at school, Liz Fyfe. Then whilst a student at the RNCM, I bought and listened to a lot of CD’s by Dougie Boyd, John Anderson and Hansjorg Schellenberger- I loved all of their different sounds!
BBC - BBC Philharmonic - Jennifer Galloway, oboe
My two oboe teachers at the RNCM, Hugh McKenna and Jonathan Small were also a big inspiration to me. And then I landed the sub-principal oboe job in the BBC Phil job sitting between Marios Argiros and Gill Callow, which was a total dream come true- I learned so much about orchestral playing and musicianship from them.
