Maria Anne Hirschmann “Hansi” was born in Czechoslovakia. Orphaned as a baby, she grew up in a foster home, experiencing loneliness, hunger, rejection and fear. After Nazi troops “liberated” Czechoslovakia, she was chosen for training to be a Nazi youth leader.
