Simbi Phiri is a Malawianbusinessman and philanthropist based in South Africa.^[1][2] He is the founder and CEO of Khato Civils Ltd, a company that operates in Malawi, South Africa and Botswana.^{[3][4][5][6][7]} The company was awarded a contract to pump water from Lake Malawi situated in Salima to Lilongwe.

In 2019, Phiri donated K700 million to Malawi Congress Party for campaign funds.^[8]

In 2017, Phiri also donated money to the party as well as the then ruling Democratic Progressive Party.^[8][9][6][7]

In February 2017, Botswana police investigated Simbi Phiri after he allegedly crossed Tlokweng border post near Gaborone with over $886 000 (R11.8m) in cash.

The money was in the boot of his car.^[10]
