Biography of Robert Falcon Scott

Robert Falcon Scott was a polar explorer and one of the first discoverers of the South Pole.

He was born in 1868 in Plymouth, England, into a family with a long maritime heritage. Scott was the third child and first son of John Edward and Hannah Scott.

At the age of 13, Scott entered the Royal Navy as a cadet and his entire life became intertwined with his service in the British Royal Navy. After completing his training on board the ship Britannia, Scott embarked on various naval assignments, including a deployment to South Africa on the ship Boadicea.

It was during his time in the West Indies that Scott met Clements Markham, the secretary of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS).
